NEW YEAR 2019 in VIENNA
Waltz, Polka and Ballroom Dances

Tuesday January 01, 2019 at 3:00 pm

Join us for a New Year’s Day afternoon in Vienna with some of your favorite waltzes and polkas by Strauss and Anderson and also including works by Offenbach, celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth.  This year we will feature ballroom dancers as our guest artists, turning the flexible space at Avondale into a Viennese ballroom. As always, a Champagne reception will follow the concert.

CELTIC CELEBRATION
Rant Maggie Rant
Saturday January 26, 2019 7:30 pm

Returning to join the SSO for our annual Celtic Celebration is “Rant Maggie Rant” with their unique brand of Celtic music. The SSO will also play Irish favourites by Anderson and Grainger as well as “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” arranged by our very own Bill Rowson.  The Stratford Police Pipe Band is sure to add much to the concert with a selection of Scottish favourites including the stirring “Highland Cathedral”.

BRAHMS' FIRST SYMPHONY
Sharon Wei

Saturday March 30, 2019 7:30

Canadian violist, Sharon Wei, joins us to perform Max Bruch’s Romance for Viola and Orchestra, Op.85(1911).

Johannes Brahms began to work on his first symphony in 1854. It debuted in 1876. During that time, the perfectionist Brahms, ever cognizant that he was expected to compose music worthy of his reputation as Beethoven’s successor, destroyed many drafts. The long awaited Symphony No. 1 is an orchestral masterwork, paying homage to Beethoven in several themes.   The concert will begin with the overture to Carl Maria Von Weber’s opera “Der Freischutz “.

BEST OF THE CROONERS
