Welcome

Welcome to Season Eight of the Stratford Symphony Orchestra

The SSO’s Season Eight comes to a close with the Saturday, May 11, concert. Evan Mitchell will conduct Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, “Rhenish,” and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.

Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 was written in 1850 shortly after he became municipal music director in Düsseldorf. Inspired by the good-natured outlook of the citizens in his new city, Schumann infused his symphony with elements of local colour and it was enthusiastically received.

In an era of dark, brooding and even tragic musical works, Dvořák’s radiantly happy No. 8 was a breath of fresh air, cheerful and optimistic.

Guest conductor Mitchell is assistant conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and associate mentor with the National Academy Orchestra.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets ($35 for adults and $20 for students and children) are available at Fanfare Books and Blowes Stationery, Stratford, and Stewart Books, St. Marys, as well as online (see link below) and at the door.
